Data Recovery Cost

The procedure used for data recovery of your hard drive will determine the

data recovery cost.  It depends mainly on the physical hardware failure that has occurred in your the hard drive.   The hard drive heads are very delicate and easily damaged if they strike the platter surface.  The heads, however,  can be replaced using a duplicate drive.  If the platters needs to be removed this can add additional cost and increase the difficulty of the recovery.  The costs can range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars depending on what procedures need to be implemented for the data recovery.

Drive Head Replacement

Drive heads are very delicate but using proper techniques and procedures they can be replace using heads form a duplicate drive.  The picture here shows the heads being removed and then later replaced with new heads.

Drive Platter Replacement

Drive platter replacement is also possible.  The picture here show the platters

being removed and put into a duplicate working drive.  Platter alignment is extremely critical because all platters must be aligned together for the heads to read the appropriate clusters and recover the data.

Software Data Recovery

Software recovery can be used if the drive hardware is still functioning.  There are many good commercial products that can quickly recover data on a functioning drive.  If the computer can still recognize the drive, recovery software can be used for data recovery.

The procedures used and the difficulty of the data recovery will determine the data recovery cost.
